San Diego Surf Session

There's no denying it - San Diego is a beach city, and surf culture is everywhere you look. We're sticking to the coast in our time in "America's Finest City" - enjoy the infectious laid-back attitude of the purveyors at Seaport Village, the 1950's styles at the kitschy Corvette Diner, and, of course, the chill vibes of your friendly instructors at your Ocean Beach surf lesson! Whether you're a rookie or a regular, you'll have fun catching some waves on the other side of the Pacific. Sick!

Old Town San Diego

California as we know it today is actually a pretty young place - it was only admitted to the union as the 31st state in 1850. The San Diego area was originally inhabited by the San Dieguito, La Jolla and Kumeyaay people, before the arrival of the Spanish in the 16th & 17th centuries. Old Town San Diego marks the site of the first European settlement on the West Coast, and celebrates the period from 1820-1850 when San Diego was in fact part of Mexico! Enjoy some authentic Mexican food and explore the historic buildings and museums here while soaking up some history.

Knott's Berry Farm

First up on your tour of Southern California's theme parks: Knott's Berry Farm! Knotts is an absolute institution and one of LA and Orange County's favourite fun spots. Angling for an "Old West" theme, Knotts is home to boysenberries, the Peanuts family, and some crazy fun roller coasters. Get ready to scream on the Ghost Rider, the Xcelerator, Hangtime and the Silver Bullet - or enjoy the views while you wait for the drop on the Supreme Scream! Afterwards (definitely afterwards) make sure to fill up on Mrs Knotts' Fried Chicken and a slice of boysenberry pie before hitting one of the park's popular themed shows or picking up some souvenirs in the marketplace. Fun for everyone!

Hollywood

You've seen it on the screen - now it's time to check it out in person. The "ground zero" of Hollywood is the stretch of Hollywood Boulevard between Vine and La Brea - home to the Walk of Fame, Mann's Chinese Theatre's hand and foot prints, and the city's most famous hotspots, shops and theatres. You'll explore some of Hollywood's best known sights - and some lesser known secrets - on your guided walking tour, before "meeting" your favourite icons at Madame Tussauds!

Santa Monica & Venice Beaches

Santa Monica: the end of the historic Route 66, and playground of the stars. Check out the world-famous Santa Monica pier and take a spin on its iconic carousel before strolling down the boardwalk towards Venice Beach and its lively locals. Skaters, street artists, body builders, punks and bohos - you'll see them all along this most popular stretch of the Los Angeles coastline, and you'll absolutely love it.

Disneyland

Guaranteed to be one of the best days of your life - we're heading to Disneyland, the "Happiest Place on Earth". No, really - it's impossible not to smile when you walk in the gates! Whether you're a Disney nutter or just here for the laughs, the magic of the world's most iconic theme parks is undeniable and you're in for a jam packed day of good times. Enjoy classic rides like Thunder Mountain Railway, Splash Mountain, Pirates of the Carribean and It's A Small World; take a spin on the teacups (go on); explore the brand new Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge; stuff your face with all the churros you can stomach. Your challenge will be to squeeze as much of it into your day here as you can manage. Have fun!

Universal Studios

Experience movie magic at Universal Studios: it's a theme park, a museum, and a working movie studio all in one! Tour real film sets on the backlot tour, check out actual studio sets for your favourite shows currently in production, have fun on movie and TV themed rides, enjoy action-packed live shows and shop and eat as much as you want at Universal CityWalk. The highlight? The new Wizarding World of Harry Potter - experience the mysteries of Hogwarts, visit the shops of Hogsmeade and take a ride on the Flight of the Hippogriff. Guaranteed to make your friends back home pretty jealous!

San Francisco

San Francisco: it's historic, iconic, gorgeous, and one of our most popular destinations. You'll have some free time to explore the City By The Bay and we have no shortage of suggestions on how you might spend it! Sail across to the infamous island prison of Alcatraz; explore quirky Pier 39 and the souvenir shops of Fisherman's Wharf; hop on the F line down to the Ferry Building and grab a bite at the farmers market; stroll along Market Street towards Union Square and shop up a storm downtown; work up a sweat scaling the city's many steep hills, explore the boho home of the beats in North Beach, or the psychadelic hippie hangout in the Haight, or the hip boutiques of Hayes Valley, or head down to The Mission for a burrito and a Blue Bottle Coffee.

DAY 1

DAY 1: AUSTRALIA TO SAN DIEGO [D]

Location : San Diego, CA, USA

Today your GO Schoolies adventure begins. Wave goodbye to your friends and family and you’ll arrive in the States before you’ve even left Australia. Hello America! Grab a seat on board your private coach and head south to the beautiful beach city of San Diego. Along the way, take in the sweeping views of San Diego and the ocean beyond from Mt Soledad. Stop in at Old Town San Diego for lunch, where you can feast on mouth-watering Mexican food and see where this diverse city first began. Dinner will be at the famous Corvette Diner this evening as you ‘rock n roll’ your way through some burgers and shakes!

DAY 2

DAY 2: SAN DIEGO TO LOS ANGELES [B, D]

Location : Los Angeles, CA, USA

You’re in California, known for its beaches and surf, so let’s have a surf lesson. Time for some fun in the sun! Surfing not your thing? No worries: explore Sea Port Village or jump aboard the aircraft carrier, USS Midway. Next up, go bargain shopping til you drop (or the credit card is maxed) at the Carlsbad Factory Outlets.

Dinner will be at the nearby Ruby’s diner where you will get to relive the American 1940’s diner scene! After dinner it’s time to say goodbye to San Diego and head north to Los Angeles – your new home for the next 4 nights.

DAY 3

DAY 3: LOS ANGELES - Knott's Berry Farm [B, D]

Need some thrills? Today’s your day! A whole day at Knott's Berry Farm, America’s first theme park, full of exhilarating rides and roller coasters. Need for speed? Xcelerator will take you from 0 to 132km/hr in 2.3sec. Heights don’t bother you? Try Hangtime, the first and only dive coaster in California, which features a beyond vertical drop, gravity-defying inversions and midair suspensions. Rides not your thing? Catch some cowboy antics or a saloon stunt show and spend the day spotting Peanuts characters. Snoopy is always keen for a selfie! Knott’s is also home to the boysenberry, so don’t miss out on trying their jam, ice cream, pies, lollies and so much more.

Think you can’t handle any more fun for one day? Think again! This evening join one the world’s most interactive dinners at the Pirates Dinner Adventure. Pyrotechnics, stunts and fierce sword fights. Will your team be victorious?

DAY 4

DAY 4: LOS ANGELES - HOLLYWOOD, SANTA MONICA & NBA GAME [B]

You’re off to Hollywood, time to get star struck! Your walking tour will follow in the footsteps of the stars, taking in Grauman's Chinese Theatre, Dolby Theatre and the Walk of Fame! Then get up close and personal with your favourite celebrities at Madame Tussauds.

Next it’s time to check out the wide beaches of Santa Monica, you’ll head down the Sunset Strip and past some of Los Angeles’ famous hotspots. At Santa Monica, the end of the famous Route 66, experience a slice of the Californian beach life. Walk the pier, watch the surfers and grab a bite to eat from one of the food vendors.

This evening you are off to an NBA Basketball game or an NHL Hockey game, dependent on scheduling. Grab a hotdog and big gulp for dinner courtside and do your best to get onto the big game screen in this once in a lifetime sporting opportunity.

DAY 5

DAY 5: LOS ANGELES - DISNEYLAND! [B]

Location : Disneyland, Disneyland Drive, Anaheim, California, USA

You have the entire day to experience “The Happiest Place on Earth”, Disneyland, home of Walt Disney, Mickey Mouse, and all of your favourite Disney characters. With nine lands to explore, including the all new Star Wars Galaxy Edge, you’ll be run off your feet trying to fit in everything the land of make-believe has to offer. Don’t miss iconic rides such as Splash Mountain, Indiana Jones and the tea cups. For dinner the options are endless. Be sure to explore the many shops and dining options outside the park at Downtown Disney for inspiration.

DAY 6

DAY 6: LOS ANGELES - UNIVERSAL STUDIOS TO SAN FRANCISCO [B]

Location : PIER 39, The Embarcadero, San Francisco, CA, USA

Lights, camera, action! Start your Universal Studios adventure with a back-lot tour and see how and where movies come to life. Check out the stunt and special effect shows, get spooked in the Walking Dead attraction or enjoy the Fast and Furious – Supercharged Ride. Discover the new Jurassic World ride, get your wizard on in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, and feast on a Krusty Burger after the Simpsons ride (definitely not before).

Next up, jump on a plane at LAX to head north to San Francisco. On arrival maybe try the famous ‘In-N-Out’ Burger, or a famous sourdough bread bowl from Boudin! Mmmmmm..

DAY 7

DAY 7: SAN FRANCISCO FREE DAY [B, D]

San Fran’s iconic sights await. Go shopping in downtown Union Square where you’ll find DSW, Victoria’s Secret and Macys. Ride on the side of a cable car like in the movies. Walk down Lombard Street, one of the crookedest streets in the world. Back at the pier you might like to take a Bay Cruise around Alcatraz or even try your luck at getting onto Alcatraz – the famous island prison – will you ever get off the island though?

We will all meet at Hard Rock Café this evening for our farewell dinner.

DAY 8

DAY 8: SAN FRANCISCO GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE & TOUR TO AIRPORT [B]

Leave your heart in San Francisco as you tour iconic landmarks, including Twin Peaks for panoramic views, the colourful Painted Ladies of Alamo Square (and Full House), Golden Gate Park and the Palace of Fine Arts. No trip to San Fran is complete without a walk across the world-famous Golden Gate Bridge. Take in the sea air as you experience 360-degree views of San Francisco Bay.

San Francisco marks the end of your Californian adventure but we’re sure you’ll head home with a ton of Insta worthy snaps! Time to say goodbye… until next time.
